Biography of Pohanyar Karimullah Oyghagh
Head of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature
Pohanyar Karimullah Oyghagh, son of the late Abdul Khalil, was born in (1989) in Ghazatapa village of Dasht-e-Qala district, Takhar Province, into an educated and culturally oriented family. He began his primary education at Bagh-Bayan Primary School and successfully completed his secondary and high school education at Dasht-e-Qala Boys’ High School in 1387 (2008). During his high school years, he was an active member of the Ali-Shir Navai Cultural Association, where he developed a deep interest in language, literature, and cultural activities.
In 1388 (2009), through the National University Entrance Examination (Kankor), he was admitted to the Faculty of Turkish and Uzbek Languages and Literature at Balkh University. After four years of study, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1391 (2012). During and after his academic studies, from 1389 to 1393 (2010–2014), he worked extensively in cultural and media fields as an Uzbek-language news anchor at Arezo World Television, editor-in-chief of Tuyghu Monthly Magazine, and an active member of the Mawlana Anbar Cultural Foundation in Balkh Province.
In 1393 (2014), after succeeding in a competitive recruitment process, Pohanyar Karimullah Oyghagh joined public service as a lecturer at the Teacher Training College (Dar al-Moallemin) in Faizabad, Badakhshan Province. In 1395 (2016), he received a scholarship and traveled to Turkey, where he successfully completed his Master’s degree in 1398 (2019). Upon graduation, he returned to Afghanistan and resumed his teaching position at the Faizabad Teacher Training College.
In 1401 (2022), he was awarded another scholarship by the Government of Turkey to pursue doctoral studies and traveled to Turkey once again. In early 1403 (2024), he was appointed as a lecturer of Turkish Language and Literature at the Faculty of Languages and Literature, Kabul University of Education. Since Asad 1404 (August 2025), he has been serving as the Head of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature.
Pohanyar Karimullah Oyghagh has been an active member of various faculty committees and has authored several scholarly research articles. He is also the author of two poetry collections and one translated work, all of which are currently ready for publication. He is married and has three children.
